Set within County Kildare in Ireland is a natural 5000 acre stretch of open flat common land. Composed of a sandy soil the area is perfect for horseracing and training, a feature which has long defined the land and given it is name of the Curragh, which is derived from the Irish term for horseracing.

|
The same name is given to the racecourse which sits on the land and since staging the first Derby back in 1866; it has become the home of Irish racing and highly regarded in global terms as a premier horseracing venue.
The track covers two miles in distance and forms a horseshoe shape which allows for any race up to 6 furlongs to be held on the straight section. In a country in which thoroughbred horseracing is of a world class standard, Ireland hosts 12 Group 1 Flat races throughout the season and the Curragh hosts no less than 10 of them. Among these are all 5 Irish Classics which comprise the 1000 and 2000 Guineas, the St. Leger, the Derby and the Oaks. Some 19 Flat races are held from March to October and all attract the best trainers, horses and riders.

The races also attract great crowds composed of knowledgeable racegoers as well as those looking to sample the spectacle and culture of the races at the home of Ireland’s horseracing. The close proximity to Dublin, less than an hour away certainly helps in drawing the crowds and special raceday bus and train services connect the capital city with the course. Races are great social as well as sporting events and a day out at the Curragh provides the perfect opportunity to spend some quality leisure time with friends, colleagues and family.
